Justin L. Stewart is an independent visual journalist from Jackson Hole, Wyoming who is currently based in Los Angeles, California. Justin earned his Master of Arts in Journalism from the Missouri School of Journalism at the University of Missouri and his Bachelor of Arts in Film & Photography from Montana State University - Bozeman. He enjoys working on projects that require both his videography and photography skills. He also loves any reason to fly his drone.
His work has taken him to Kenya, Germany, Netherlands and Costa Rica. In 2012, he published a book entitled Khwisero about Engineers Without Borders - MSU's work in the small rural district of Khwisero, Kenya.
In 2015, he traveled to the Guanacaste National Park in Costa Rica to train firefighters to fly drones. He also served as a graduate teaching assistant for the University of Missouri's drone class with Professors Bill Allen and Rick Shaw, teaching MU students how to fly drones. He became a certified FAA Part 107 unmanned aerial drone pilot in October 2016.
Justin's work has been published in The Atlantic, TIME's Lightbox, Al Jazeera, ESPN, The New York Times, The Guardian, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe and many other outlets. He contributed to Spike Lee's "2 Fists Up," documentary about the protests and unrest on the University of Missouri's campus during the fall semester of 2015.
When not inundated with work, Justin can be found chasing his dog around the park, wandering the streets of LA with camera in hand, or researching stories and possible travel opportunities.
He's not into coffee, but he'd love to grab tea with you.
Justin is available for work in the Los Angeles area and elsewhere.
